The New Yalicoo Blog is here!
July 7, 2008
Yalicoo is not just about competing; it is also a great way to become a part of a growing community of traders and investors. In order to expand the community experience we have launched the new Yalicoo blog –
YBlog.
The YBlog can assist you in learning and communicating with all Yalicoo players and with the Yalicoo team. You can read interesting posts and learn about investing strategies, from basics such as what stocks are and how to invest in them, to more advanced topics such as Forex and Futures. You can also review all the previous newsletters.
Our site and topics are open for anyone to comment and debate on.
We encourage you to share your thoughts, ideas, trading strategies, investing history and more with everyone in the Yalicoo community. Please let us know (by contacting us through
this link) if you are interested in writing your own blog. This could be a great opportunity for you to assist other players, establish friendships with new traders and receive feedback on your strategies, which could further increase your returns.
The previous competitions and the ones that has just opened
As far as the market is concerned we have witnessed again a bear market with an attempt to rebound on Thursday, just before July 4th, United States Independence Day. The positive trend was shadowed by a high unemployment rate which some analysts feel may suggest the market is still in an overall downward trend. There were no surprises in the last week of the June
monthly competition, and fieldGoals was declared as the official winner. Despite the fact that this was one of the worst months for the indexes (this was actually the worsest month for the Dow Jones sine 1929!), fieldGoals succeeded to gain an impressive 17.18%. His secret may be rooted in correctly timing the market. While other traders continued trading stocks during the second half of the month, when most of the market declined, fieldGoals did not hold any stock at all in his portfolio, thus keeping his amazing high score constant until the end. With a large gap behind fieldGoals, Tech and daytr8r were ranked second and third in this competition.
The new July
monthly competition is already on its way. MSpurrier (4.29%) is currently in the lead with a bunch of familiar energy stocks. 12345, who is placed behind him, also chose to focus on these energy companies so far. On the contrary to those two, flip, who is placed third, is mainly into internet stocks. The month has just begun so be prepared to see many ups and downs on the score board as the market continues its volatility.
The second-quarter
quarterly competition has also finalized last week, with Ach beating both the indexes and all the other players. It was a very successful quarter for Ach; he showed us that it is possible to win without trading a very large number of stocks. During the entire quarter, Ach sold only 21 stocks. However, he succeeded to sell few of them for a very large profit. For example, his most profitable sell was the alternative energy company Energy Conversion Devices (ENER) which soared 138% during the three weeks it was held by Ach. More impressively, Ach sold it very close to its peak around $76 (now it is traded for only $64…). When asked about the secrets of his success he mentioned patience and…keeping a close eye on other Yalicoo players. It is also important to mention Blooskye66 and agent who were placed second and third, and ShimTom who was placed second until the last minute of the competition.
These experts and many other Yalicoo’s traders are already playing in the new
quarterly competition which was launched a few days ago. The number of players in the quarterly competition is still lower than other competitions; the prizes, on the other hand, are the highest - $3250 for the winners. Thus, your chances to win this competition are higher than in other games. Add to that the fact that this is the longest and most educational competition, and you understand why we encourage you to join the quarterly competition.
Share your Yalicoo with all your friends!
It is definitely more interesting for all of us to play with more traders. This increases the number of strategies that can be studied and followed. Also, it is much more interesting and challenging to compete with and against your friends and relatives. Now, it is easier to invite all of them to join us. In the top part of each competition page we placed a link which enables you to share Yalicoo with all the major services over the net, such as MySpace, Digg, Facebook, Google and many others. All you need to do is click on the icon of the service you want Yalicoo to be added to, and follow the instructions. A Yalicoo link will be added to your account in the service you chose.
Let’s continue working together and build the largest community of traders in the world!
