Happy Holidays! (and, what we expect from 2008…)
Here is a message
from our CEO.
Tonight we celebrate the end of 2007 and start getting ready for 2008. Happy New
Year!
2007 was a great year for me personally. It was a pleasure for me, as the CEO of
Yalicoo, to introduce Yalicoo to all of you. Since I love participating in the
stock
trading competitions, I must say that I gained many new things from you. By watching
Yalicoo traders, I improved my own skills and knowledge of the NASDAQ stock
market. In addition, I also got some great ideas about excellent new stocks that
I never heard of before and transferred some of this learning into my real life
portfolio and improved my portfolio's performance.
I must quote from one of the many letters that I received from Yalicoo players
this year:
“Hi Yalicoo,
I’m a student from Colombia University; you guessed it right, my major is
business. What I know is to value companies, which means that I know how to
check if its stock is worth buying. This knowledge is good in theory and
sometimes works also in the real world. But, apparently knowing that is not
enough in order to be a successful investor. One also needs to practice trading
for real (not only on the black board…).
When I first registered to Yalicoo, I
didn’t know what to expect. But, two month later I have to tell you that I
became a much more experienced trader. I simply did what you told me – I watched
the leaders, learned from their experience and traded as many stocks as I could.
I even won a couple of times and used the money I earned to join more
competitions and got more experience! … I must say that the Yalicoo idea is
working… I’ll continue to participate in the competitions (my favorite is the
monthly) and improve my investing and trading knowledge.
Thank you for helping me to become a better investor!”. Steve P. New York
Yalicoo is a great
stock trading simulation that combines competing and sharing
in the same game. Yalicoo teaches novice investors the basics of the stock
market and assists them in building the confidence they need in stock trading,
without taking the risks involved in real money trading. Yalicoo also helps
advanced traders improve their skills even more by testing their trading
strategies and developing new ones. Since Yalicoo uses real time quotes it’s
exactly the same as real stock trading but without the risks involved in real
money trading. And that’s not all.
Yalicoo is also a fast growing community of
traders and investors who like the stock market and want to become better
investors by learning and competing with other investors from the community. In
2008 we intend to expand the community opportunities as well as our educational
section, so the Yalicoo experience will be much more varied and effective (and
attractive) for all of us.
I wish you a happy new year and I’m sure we will continue to trade together on
Yalicoo and keep gaining more knowledge and experience from the Yalicoo
competitions.
Vered Levy-Ron, Yalicoo CEO
The quarterly competition starts tomorrow!
This quarter was one of the poorest quarters of
the stock market of the past few years. Not only did we not have the “December
rally”, but the main indexes went down 4-5% during this period. The
Yalicoo
quarter, however, was magnificent. The quarter ends today, but the scoreboard
already shows very impressive returns. Fred is ranked first with an unbelievable
return of 29%! Then, we have two additional experts - getmoney with 27% and HKN
with 22%! Take a look at the figure below, which compares the quarterly returns
of the first five leaders to the S&P500 index return.

How could I know...
Isn’t it odd, the market is falling and yet Yalicoo returns are going up? Well,
it isn’t. In a declining market, many traders do lose money (and some time even
large amounts of money). But, not all of the traders lose. There are those who
know what stocks they should buy, when to buy them, and just as important – when
to sell them. These three extraordinary competitors are probably among those who
know what they are doing. Think about it for a second.
If you would have bought
an index fund or an Exchange traded Fund (ETF) you would have lost 5% of your
investment. On the other hand, if you would have watched Fred from the beginning
of the competition and bought his stocks for your real money portfolio, your
investments would have grown by almost 30% in only 3 month! You can start to see
my point here...
Some of you may say “how could I have known that Fred would succeed in beating
the market?” Well, the answer is simple. Fred, getmoney and HKN, the three
winners of the last quarterly competition, are not anonymous competitors. On the
contrary, they are well known players and they have won several competitions in
the past. Thus, you could have known in advance that they are great traders.
There are also other names that appear on the scoreboard in other various
stock
trading competitions. All you have to do is follow them and watch their moves. By doing
that, you will not only be improving your trading and investing skills, but you
will also have the opportunity to copy these moves into your real portfolios and
possibly increase your returns.
This time you know!
A new
quarterly competition starts tomorrow. Participating in the quarterly
competition gives you enough time to think, learn, watch the leaders, try
different trading strategies, and more. Thus, any one who joins the quarterly
competition has great chances of becoming a much better trader. Also, don’t
forget that there are thousands of Dollars just waiting for the winners to take
them home.
Remember that early joiners have an advantage over latecomers, since the market
is always on the move. Moreover, the lack of the 2007 “December rally” increases
the chances of the market to have a larger “January effect” (a substantial
incline in the market in January, which occurs almost every year). In other
words, we can expect higher profits for Yalicoo players during the beginning of
January.
The bottom line is that now you know that the
quarterly competition is a unique opportunity
for you to
gain substantial experience, see great stock ideas that could be used for
increasing your real portfolio returns and (in case you forgot) win substantial
cash prizes.
